Community Environmental Movie Nights a Huge Success

By: Julia Minarik, Youth Member – Gimli Environmental Advisory Committee

Here in Gimli, Manitoba our Gimli Environmental Advisory Committee (GEAC) has been hosting Environmental movie nights. These movie nights have been held on Thursdays at the community’s multipurpose building and are open to any community member wishing to attend. There is no entrance fee and there is complimentary popcorn!  So far we have shown Vanishing of the Bees, Burning Water, and Bag It! All of the movies were borrowed from the Alice Chambers Memorial Library.

We are currently advertising at the Gimli Recreation Centre, on the town cable, on our Facebook page and on the town’s radio station. These movie nights have been a complete success so far and sparked much interesting conversation amongst the community members. By hosting these movie nights the community becomes better informed of the many environmental issues in our world while bonding with other like-minded community members. As well GEAC has been receiving a lot of positive publicity. GEAC is hoping to continue hosting these movie nights throughout the summer months, hopefully expanding as they become more popular!
