Have Your Voice Heard - The Environmental Petitions Process
The environmental petitions process is a formal procedure through the Auditor General for Canadians to bring their concerns about environmental issues to the attention of the federal government and obtain a response to those concerns.

Through the process, citizens and organizations can ask federal government ministers to explain their policies, investigate environmental problems, or examine their enforcement of environmental legislation. Unlike traditional petitions that require numerous signatures, an environmental petition needs only a simple letter. An individual, organization, municipality, or corporation can initiate a petition, but it must be done in writing. Petitions are sent to the Auditor General of Canada, and the Commissioner of the Environment and Sustainable Development, on behalf of the Auditor General, forwards them to the appropriate ministers and monitors their responses.

Petitions must address an “environmental matter within the context of sustainable development.”
