This is a big and important issue - and you need to address it early on in your planning stage. Establish a plan with a designated "first aid person" in your party. This person will pack a main first aid kit and smaller ones for each canoe. This person will be in charge and should be trained and knowledgeable in any emergency situation. Remember, you may be a number of paddling days away from any help when an emergency strikes. Wilderness First Aid courses are offered by various organizations.
